I will be a leader, creator, and advocate of health to allow my community to function at its very best.
Move with Purpose.
I have been a science nerd ever since my first egg drop at science camp when I was six, but I did not always know I wanted to become a physical therapist. I tend to explain my journey to physical therapy like a marble maze. I could see everything I wanted in a career, I just had to knock into a few dead ends before reaching the goal. All of my other career choices revolved around the same qualities that bring out the best in me. However, physical therapy is the one career that gives me the knowledge and skills to perfectly realize my potential.
What do we tell patients? Slow and controlled movements through exercises is better than jackhammering them out. What was our first safety tip as kids? Stop, look, and listen before crossing the street. And what does the tortoise teach us as it kicks the hare’s impetuous ass? Slow and steady wins the race. For me, to move with purpose is to be intentional in all aspects of your life. Knowing why you are doing something is far more interesting to me than what you are doing. Move with purpose is my personal mantra to be curious, reflective, present in my life, so that when I do decide to take that one perfect step it is full of meaning and intent.
